とよた　は　かいしゃ　です　(Toyota is a company)

どよた　は　じどうしゃの　かいしゃ　です　(Toyota is a car company) ~ じどしゃ = car

ほんだ　も　じどうしゃの　かいしゃ　です　(Honda is also a car company) ~ も = also

みつぶし　は　なんの　かいしゃ　ですか　(Mutsubushi is what kind of company) ~ なんの = what kind

 

これ　は　どこの　ほん　ですか　(What kind of book is this)

ふらんすの　ほん　です　(French book)

それ　は　どこの　とけい　ですか　(What kind of what is that)

ひほんの　とけい　です　(Japanese watch)

 

We can answer どこ　with the the name of the country (くに) or with the name of company (かいしゃ)

 

Now let learn some new rules about writing hiragana:

Lesson XII

 

Look at the image Ja, is the example how we would ask direction in department store and buy a bag.

 

Chotto – a little

Sumimasen – excuse me

Kaban-uriba – bag-shop (kaban-bag, uriba-shop)

Kai – floor

Irasshaimase – welcome

Ikura – cost (このかばんはいくらですか – how much is this bag)

En – yen

Kudasai – please

 

じゃ、これ　を　ください  ~ I will take this (kudasai here means lit. give me)

を　is particle for objects or we could say that を (o) marks the object of the sentence.

 

On the image Jb we have some examples.

Numbers:

 

Look at the image Lb and we will learn the numbers.

 

1000 is せん,　いっせん is wrong, except when we have 31000, which is　さんまんいっせん or for example 41500 that is written よんまんいっせんごひゃく, but 10000 is always written as いちまん.

150 ~ ひゃくごじゅう

302 ~　さんぴゃくに

105 ~　ひゃくご

1010 ~　せんじゅう

630 ~　ろっぴゃくさんじゅう

1800 ~　せんはっぴゃく

31090 ~　さんまにせっせんきゆうじゅう

10275 ~　いちまんいひゃくたたじゅうご

 

いくら　(ikura) how much

 

この　とけい　は　いくら　ですか　How much is this watch

この　とけい　は　5000　えん　です This watch is 5000 yen

 

 

In image Ib from the earlier lesson there are some exercises for numbers, like they are on the following images (image K, L and M)

Oh and a warning in lesson XIV we will learn all about KATAKANA.

More stuff to learn, I see. XDDD I shall save this entry and learn everything at my own pace. It just made me realize how much my Japanese has suffered! It took me a moment to realize that yeah, 'ikura' means 'how much'. XDDD

I stuck in learning thei symbols T_T it seems the more I learn them the more they are mixed up in my head T____T

Katakana is much simplier - so I wonder why

maybe it was your teacher's mistake to teach them separetaly? I learnt Katakana with Hiragana - that seems to me a good way to learn them )

ほんだ　も　じどうしゃの　かいしゃ　です - I suppose you just forgot to type は？
so it will be like this ほんだ　も は　じどうしゃの　かいしゃ　です。　　ne? ^^

you said "what kind" is なんの but then you used どこの
so what's the point?

ほんだ　も　じどうしゃの　かいしゃ　です - I suppose you just forgot to type は No. When you use mo(also), you don't need wa; so in a way mo replaces wa.

なんの I think that nanno is use for when you are asking what kind of factory in what they are making (watch, cars, food, etc); when どこの is use when you are asking from which country the factory is or the name of the company. There is a lot of thinks like that when the translation our teacher gave us, is not really the detailed one, so I had to be attentive to the contents of the sentence.

LESSON12 some questions ^^

doko no - where from? (image Jb, example 5)

also YOu said 10 000 is always いちせん　but in the table (image Lb) it's いちまん　so which one is correct?

also 300 will be sanByaku or sanPyaku? - can't see wether it's び or　ぴ　there in the table.

I think Doko no is more like WHAT KIND; doko - where, no - possessive particle, but it could be where from also.

10 000 is いちまん, I made a mistake. *goes to repair it* Gomen. Gomen.

300 is sambyaku.
